The beginnings of bicycles are very interesting to look at, the French being the first ones to add pedals to this vehicle and the Germans being the first ones to invent the vehicle itself. However, these beginnings are quite complicated, but here are a few things about them.
First of all, you might want to know that it was the war between France and the Prussic people in 1870 which destroyed the bicycle market in France. In America, the age of bicycles also seemed to reach an end because of the very bad roads, roads which didn't make it possible for people to ride a bicycle, especially since it then featured wooden wheels. However, the end of the 1870s represented a real success for the English, who released the first bicycle with an over-dimensioned front wheel and took advantage of the hard times France was having. Thus, England became very popular among all people, being highly appreciated by the ones in the middle class. Coventry, Birmingham, Oxford or Manchester would be some of the well-known English centres which succeeded in exporting bicycles in 1875. In fact, the English succeeded in reaching the number of exports done by the French.
In America, the importation of bikes started in 1878, these vehicles becoming very popular among those in the upper-middle class in England, France and the United States of America. 1898 and the industrialization period also brought the first ads which presented the advantages of purchasing a bike, ads which had a great impact on people.
