Giana Roberge will take the reins as director for the Peanut Butter & Co.TWENTY12 Women’s Professional Cycling Team,as Kristin Armstrong steps into the racing arena. Armstrong thrilled fans last month when she went public with her decision to return to the peloton to defend her Olympic and World Championship Gold Medals, but her decision left the driver’s seat in the team car empty.
The decision to bring Roberge into the fold was a natural one for Nicola Cranmer, General Manager, and Armstrong, Team Captain. Roberge played an instrumental role in the team’s foundational grass roots days as the PROMAN Hit Squad. “I first worked with Giana five years ago. She constantly impressed me with her professionalism, knowledge and strong advocacy for women’s cycling. She was not only a great mentor for the riders, but for me as well. She was more than willing to share her experience from her time with the fabled Saturn program. “ Remarked Cranmer, “ I learned so much in regard to program presentation and management from my time working with her.”
Roberge has a rich history as a team director. As the former Team Director for the Saturn Women’s and Quark teams, Roberge brings racing wisdom, tactical knowledge and a professional approach to women’s racing. Under her direction, the Saturn Women’s Team won the UCI Team Title and the Women’s World Cup Title two consecutive years, as well as the Redlands Classic, the Liberty Classic, the HP Women’s Challenge, Tour de L’Aude, and the Holland Ladies Tour.
“It is an honor to work with the roster of riders and sponsors that Nicola and Kristin have assembled,” said Roberge. ” I am very excited to return to the Director’s roll with such a talented, eager and promising group of women to work with, including 17 year old rising star Ruth Winder and Durango based talent, Kristin McGrath, who came back to win Green Mountain Stage race after being unable able to compete much of 2010 due to an injury. Not only are the riders incredible, the Team has an outstanding roster of supportive and enthusiastic sponsors including new partnerships with Felt Bicycles and Zipp which speaks directly to the excellent job both Nicola and Kristin have done to promote the Peanut Butter & Co.TWENTY12 Team. “
Roberge will begin working with the team immediately.
