The Winter Training Sessions

Let's assume that you had a year full of bike tours, training sessions and competitions. The great challenge is to keep your physical condition during the winter. The days are shorter, the weather outside doesn't allow you to take very long tours and the end of the year destroys the body with all the tasty food. The peak is the stress which is stored within throughout the entire year.

However, all these problems disappear if you have a well-established plan. The winter is perfect for eliminating stress, for improving your strength, for improving your mobility skills and so on. First of all, you can go to the gym. For instance, Lance Armstrong goes to the gym during the entire winter. There are two exercises which stand at the basis of his training sessions: the extension, which work out the back muscles and the press training sessions, which work on the muscles he uses when pedaling.

Many cyclists are afraid of the fact that they might gain weight, but this is not at all true. If you got to the gym for an hour and practise, your body burns a significant amount of calories. It burns a lot more calories than if were staying at home, waiting for the weather to get better.

If you don't like going to the gym, you can start climbing the stairs. The effort is similar to the one you make in the gym and you also have the advantage of doing an exercise which also requires cardiovascular activity. Therefore, you have options, so you just have to quit being lazy.
