What Mountain Bike The Polaris Vortex tights stand out from the rest of the Roubaix crowd by being neither entirely Roubaix nor even slightly bib. They’re padded windproof tights with a simple knotted-drawcord waistband. Inevitably, this isn’t as comfortable as a bib, but it’s still pretty good.
The windproof panels are con?ned to the front of the legs, with Roubaix-style Thermastretch fabric ?lling in the gaps around the back. It’s a sensible construction, although the relatively low stretch of the windproof panels manifests as a rippling on the front of the legs.
The construction of the foot loops is interesting, with the outer leg panel wrapping under the foot and stitching to the inner. There’s no danger of any skin peeping out, but the design results in a seam across the top of the foot that – depending on your shoes – may be irritating.
De?nitely not irritating is the perforated Coolmax pad. It’s not as sophisticated as some in terms of shape, but is perfectly acceptable. Finally, re?ective logos help road visibility.
