Depending on where you're coming from, the bicycle bivi bag has a whole assortment of names. The bivi bag is also known as the bivy sack, the bivi bag, bivy and bivouac sack. The main function of this bag still remains the same, and that is to shelter the user from the elements. Despite it being characteristically lightweight, this bag is able to comfortably fit one person and is waterproof. Essentially, people use the bag when they rather not go through the hassle of lugging a tent with them.
The Pros
The bag is convenient and is great especially for those cyclists going on a short camping trip. While a typical bicycle tent could weigh around 5 to 9 pounds, it only weighs less than 3 pounds. Relative to a tent, the bicycle bivi bag also requires smaller ground space to set up. Furthermore, it is pretty easy to use, which is essential for tired cyclists who simply want to have a good night's rest before the next day's journey.
The Cons
While it's great that this bag is compact, its saving grace is also a problem for some. The bivi bag is not for those who love their privacy as it is pretty much logistically impossible to change your clothes while you're in this tent. It is also not for those who are claustrophobic either as the tightness of the space may feel constrictive. The material of the bag can also get pretty uncomfortable after extended sleep as users may start to feel clammy due to lack of air flow through the bag. For better or worse, the bivi bag only fits one person at a time so it might not be the most economical as that means everyone needs to buy their own.
